Save your television recordings? This is possible for a maximum of 60 days, but with these providers it can be up to one and even three years after date | MyGuide

MytelcoWatching TV can be done in many ways these days: with the classic decoder, via a TV app from your provider or via streaming services from the various channels. Each way has its advantages and disadvantages. Mijntelco.be found out which options are the most interesting, depending on how you prefer to watch TV.

Which operators can you choose from?

Four providers currently offer television services: Telenet, Proximus, Orange and Scarlet. Every provider, except Scarlet, also offers its customers the option to watch via an app.

Subscriptions to watch TV only are not available on the market. You are forced to take the combination of TV and internet, possibly with telephony.

Without a discount you will find the best price at Scarlet. A Trio-subscription with internet, TV and a fixed line it will cost you 42 euros per month. Small side note: your internet speed is on the low side at 70 Mbps and you can only watch the 33 most popular channels. Attention: the start-up costs for this subscription are currently only 99 euros instead of the usual 149 euros.

If you want a higher internet speed and a choice of more television channels, we will find the best offer at Telenet, with the Easy Internet Inclusief TV Iconic. For EUR 60.85 per month, you can enjoy internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps and more than 93 TV channels, of which more than 60 in HD.

Save up to 300 euros per year on your internet and TV subscription: the ten cheapest formulas listed.

How long can you keep recordings?

One decoder is not the other. Depending on the type of decoder you have in-house and the provider of which you are a customer, you can store recordings for a longer or shorter period of time.

What does the retention period depend on? In the first place from the way your decoder stores recordings. With the latest generation of decoders, all this is done in the cloud, where the maximum retention period is automatically shorter.

Older decoders do this on an internal hard disk, with the advantage that your recordings were saved indefinitely as long as your operator continues to support the type of decoder. The recording capacity is then quite limited. If the hard disk is full, you can no longer record.

The latest generation of decoders from Telenet, Orange, Proximus and Scarlet only keep recordings in the cloud. The maximum retention period for each operator is 60 days. With the exception of Telenet: you can store your recordings there for one year. Proximus and Scarlet customers can keep a limited number of recording hours for up to three years.

Same network, but lower prices: are low-cost providers such as Scarlet the solution for your high telecom bill? And what should you definitely pay attention to?

Do you still need a TV subscription?

Now that you can save recorded programs, series and films for less time, a TV subscription may seem (even) less useful. Moreover, our viewing behavior is also increasingly moving towards streaming via TV apps.

Many operators, with the exception of Scarlet, therefore offer subscription formulas to watch TV via their TV app and that makes a difference in price:
• At Telenet you can save just under 11 euros with your ONE bundle.
• At Orange you save 9 euros on your Love Trio pack.
• Proximus customers can even save 18 euros on their Flex pack.

In addition to the flexibility and the ability to watch different channels on different devices at the same time, watching TV online offers other benefits. This way you can rewatch programs if you missed the beginning, and watch recordings up to sixty days later, wherever and whenever you want.
