Renting instead of buying – this is a comfortable alternative for more and more winter sports enthusiasts. You don’t have to worry about the care of the skis or the snowboard and you can also choose from the current models every year. However, how deep you have to dig into your pocket to borrow the equipment is very different. For carving skis of the middle class in Upper Austria, according to AK consumer protectors, you pay between 15 and 28 euros per day. If you borrow skis and poles for six days, the differences are even greater: the cheapest provider charges 54 euros – more than twice as much, namely 125 euros, the most expensive.
Complete package: Even a helmet is sometimes included for free
With the rental companies within a ski area, the prices are usually closer together, but you can still save on a comparison here. In addition, you should pay attention to the overall package, the AK emphasizes: sometimes a helmet can also be borrowed for free, and not all providers include insurance in case the equipment is damaged. By the way, those who book online in advance can not only save money in many cases, but also play it safe that the desired equipment is actually available.
