Types of drying cabinets

There are currently three types of drying cabinets on the market, each with their own specific advantages and disadvantages.

Of heat pump dryer is the most popular and the most energy-efficient. The disadvantage: you often pay a little more for it and it takes longer for your laundry to dry.

At one condenser dryer the moisture ends up in a container. This device is more democratic in terms of purchase price, but due to the higher energy consumption it is now becoming quite dated.

A final type is the exhaust dryer, which expels the warm air through an exhaust hose. On average, that type uses even more than a condenser dryer.

Possible savings

For consumption, we should especially look at the energy label. This ranges from A+++ to B. The most recent models, of energy class A++ or A+++, quickly consume 20 to 50 percent less energy than the older appliances, but they also fluctuate between an average consumption of 200 and 250 kWh per year.

What are you paying for that? Well, the median rate via Mijnenergie.be in April is 35.15 euro cents per kWh.

With that energy price in mind, you can quickly save a few tens of euros by not using your dryer during sunny months. This is especially the case if you still have an older appliance of a lower energy class at home. In some cases we can even talk about savings of hundreds of euros.

Saving tip: This is the ideal freezer temperature for your food and your wallet.

Other benefits

The price is not the only reason to dry your laundry on a wire or on a rack. Using less electricity is better for the environment anyway. On sunny days with some wind, your laundry will dry much faster than in the dryer.

And last but not least: nothing beats that typical, wonderfully fresh smell of fresh laundry that has been dried outside on a clothesline.

The choice of your contract/supplier also influences your energy bill
