Save big on food. It is necessary to learn a few tricks

At a time when everything is becoming more expensive, we need to think about whether we are saving enough for food. Throwing away leftovers is absolutely unnecessary, it is more appropriate to store everything properly and cook so that there are no leftovers. Shopping at events doesn’t have to be a problem either – but only if you know where and how to store the food. Buying a kilo of vegetables that you cannot process is a waste of money. You can put quality food in the freezer and only prepare what you eat.

Simple meals from leftovers

Try to process everything. When you are working with a large amount of root vegetables, you can also make a vegetable stock from the leftovers and scraps. Almost everything can be processed. The rest of the cream and half of the cauliflower, then you have it cooked for the next day. If you plan ahead when preparing food and think about how this or that could be further processed, you will really save money. Alternatively, you can use the freezer – store the meat scraps in the freezer and when you have more of them, prepare a broth from them.

Ground meat as a “rescue” ingredient

There are foods that you simply need to have at home. Mostly it is potatoes, salt, pasta, rice. But if you have ground meat at home, you are at an advantage. You can prepare a lot from a kilo of minced meat. All you have to do is work it in a bowl with an egg and spices, form some of it into balls, fry until golden, and you have a tasty meal to which you only need to add tomato sauce. You can then thicken part of the minced meat with rice or pastry, shape it into a donut and bake it in the oven. You will then fry the meatballs from the rest. In this way, you can easily make magic in the kitchen and save money.

Minimum durability

Do not confuse the terms expiration date and minimum shelf life. The minimum shelf life is the time until which your food will certainly remain in good condition. It won’t spoil at the stroke of midnight, but most foods, especially those that are long-lasting and well-stored, will last. There is no need to throw them away immediately if you haven’t had time to eat them by a specific date. The use-by date is different, especially when it comes to meat products. Therefore, it is advisable to freeze them when you know that you will not be processing them in the near future, thereby extending their shelf life.
