After the win, Dean finds himself the center of attention and receives one television offer after another. The offers to perform in the country also keep pouring in. There are even more than he can handle at the moment. Dean does not complain, because he enjoys his new life to the fullest. But when the public’s interest fades, he realizes how unstable an artist’s life really is. “I hadn’t taken that uncertainty into account,” he says The Telegraph.
In addition, according to Dean, a life in the spotlight is ‘definitely not a fairytale’. Much is fake, according to the singer: “I discovered that behind their big houses and luxury cars a lot of suffering and poverty is hidden. I had ended up in a fantasy world. A fake world, in which I found it difficult to participate.”
Privately, there is also a period when things are going a bit less. In fact, in 2018, Dean ends up in jail after setting fire to his father-in-law’s car and facing prejudice over illegal gun possession and assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his 10-year-old son London. “I admit that my life with his mother doesn’t deserve the beauty prize. When two people separate, you just have to neatly solve the problems that come with such a divorce,” says Dean. “Despite my continuing to say that I have been accused of more than rightly so, I regret that I went too far in my emotions.”
The year in prison does open his eyes and Dean decides to completely change course when he returns home. He is now happy with his girlfriend Dana. In July of 2021 they even welcome a baby boy, Archie. “When I saw her, it was immediately hit. She always let me go. She trusted me,” Dean praises the mother of his youngest. He continues: “I live for Dana and the kids. I do feel guilty about London sometimes. Everything I’m going through with Archie now, I’ve had to miss with him. And I still do. I find it hard not to see him every day around me. I hope I can make up for that lack with him one day.”
Although his two kids adore each other, Dean hardly sees his own brothers anymore. “In our youth I was very close with Ben and Jamie, but in recent years we have grown apart. We turn out to be completely different people,” he admits. “Maybe my brothers and I, apart from each other, just need periods in our lives where we can be completely free.”
