The Californian Saúl “La Bestia” Sánchez (15-1 8 KO’s) will face Frank “El Punigador” González (8-1 4 KO’s), in a duel for the vacant bantamweight scepter Fedecentro of the WBA, this Friday, 19 March, at the Bryan Glazer JCC Center, Tampa, Florida.
The fight, which is promoted by All Star Boxing, Tutico Zabala, will be televised on Telemundo.
Both star fighters emerged from their commitment to the official Roman with flying colors, recording Saul Sánchez 118 pounds and Frank González 118 pounds.
Saúl Sánchez, 23, returns to Telemundo, for the second time in his career, after an impressive performance in the super roosters, in last year’s fall series, as he easily eliminated the favorite of the local series, Daniel Lozano, in the first round, last October. Sánchez now returns to the bantamweight division, where he hopes a few more wins will give him a title shot.
“I am excited to be back on the Telemundo network,” said Saúl Sánchez. “It’s great for my career to get this exposure on television as I fight my way through the title race,” concluded Sánchez. “I would like to thank my team, All Star Boxing and Telemundo for another great opportunity.”
Frank González, 24, comes from a family of fighters as his father (Orlando González) was a former boxer in the 90s, who appeared on many shows in the region. “The Punisher” appears to burst onto the scene as the headliner on Friday, in what will be his first regional title fight of his career.
“When I got the call to face Sánchez on Telemundo, I didn’t hesitate twice to take this fight,” said Frank González. “I have been telling my coaches that I am ready for an opportunity on the big stage, with a title at stake,” concluded González. “It’s my time to shine.”
In the same feature, super welterweight and local fan favorite Marcus “Magic” Willis (19-7-2) will face Mexican slugger Aaron “Timmy” Garcia (16 -9-1) in an affair. 6 rounds.
