Saudi Professional League Signs Global Broadcasting Deals to Increase Revenues

The Saudi Professional League has concluded contracts with a group of media organizations to broadcast its matches in different regions around the world, after its clubs created the event during the current transfer season, by attracting big stars from Europe.

According to the agencybloombergThe signed broadcast rights contracts include more than 130 regions, which would return the Saudi League with revenues that could reach four times the total of last season.

According to the data of the “Sports Business” platform, which specializes in sports affairs and tracks broadcasting rights, the revenues that the Saudi League achieved from the deals concluded last year did not exceed $ 710,000.

While Bloomberg expects that revenues from broadcasting rights during the sports season, which starts today, Friday, will be higher, although it indicated that it remains “minimal” returns compared to the volume of the Kingdom’s spending on player deals in recent months.

The agency indicated that the English Premier League generated more than $ 4 billion in revenue from broadcasting rights in the 2022/23 season, according to the financial advisory firm, Deloitte.

The contracts for this season include an agreement with the “Fox Sports” channel, which will broadcast the matches of the Saudi round through its cable channels in the United States, according to the same source.

In addition to agreements with sports broadcasting company DAZN to broadcast matches in different regions, in a deal worth about $500,000 annually, Bloomberg News reported.

And the French channel “Canal Plus” also announced that it had obtained the rights to broadcast the matches of the Saudi Football League, last Tuesday.

“These agreements come at a time of real growth for Saudi football, with increasing interest in the Roshan League from all over the world,” Saad Al-Lathif, Vice President of the Saudi Professional League, said in a statement.

A representative for the league declined to comment when Bloomberg asked how much revenue the recent broadcast contracts would generate.

And the sovereign wealth fund in Saudi Arabia, which manages nearly $ 800 billion in assets, acquired majority stakes in four of the largest clubs in the professional league (Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahly), while the state oil company, Saudi Aramco, acquired Al-Qadisiyah club.
