Saudi Health Council: Smoking Does Not Relieve Stress

The Saudi Health Council denied the validity of the information circulating that smoking would relieve or reduce stress, describing it as a “common misconception.”

In a tweet on his Twitter account, Wednesday, the Health Council confirmed that there is no relationship between smoking and stress relief.

There are other methods and practices that have proven effective in dealing with stress, including “drinking water or tea, practicing deep breathing, using a stress ball to keep your hands busy,” according to the council.

Among those ways that relieve stress is also “learning skills to deal with life’s pressures, and exercising,” according to the council.

Cigarette smoking remains the most common form of tobacco use worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.Global Health Organization“.

More than 80 percent of the 1.3 billion tobacco users globally live in low- and middle-income countries, where the burden of tobacco-related morbidity and mortality is greatest.

The organization warns that tobacco kills about half of those who smoke it, and that it causes the death of more than eight million people annually.
