Saudi Doctor’s Car Ramps Through German Christmas Market, Killing Two

Two‌ killed and⁣ 68 wounded

Tragedy struck a German Christmas market​ in Magdeburg on Friday, December⁢ 20th, 2024, when a car plowed into a crowd, resulting ⁢in at least ‍two deaths ​and 68 injuries. The incident,which occurred approximately 100 miles west of Berlin,has sent shockwaves thru the nation and beyond.

Authorities identified the suspect as a ⁢50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia ‍who had been living and practicing medicine​ in Bernburg, Germany,‌ as 2006. He held a permanent residency permit. According to officials,he acted ⁢alone.

A Magdeburg police spokesperson stated, “The car traveled ‘at least 400 meters through the⁢ Christmas market’,” highlighting‍ the devastating scale of the incident. The city of Magdeburg’s official website ‌reported two fatalities, including a ⁢child, and a staggering 68 injuries. Of those injured, 15‌ sustained critical injuries, 37 ⁢moderate injuries, ⁣and 16 minor injuries.

The suspect’s background ‌presents a stark contrast to the violence he perpetrated.He was a prominent advocate for refugees in Germany, a respected member of ⁤the Saudi refugee ⁤community, and had worked extensively ​wiht asylum seekers.He was granted​ asylum in 2016 as a political refugee and worked as a psychotherapist in Saxony-Anhalt.

News⁢ agencies WDR ‍and NDR reported​ that he was known‌ for his work assisting‍ foreign women in adapting to life in Germany. Saxony-Anhalt’s⁣ interior minister, Tamara zischang, stated, “According to our current facts, he acted alone.”

Security ‍experts are exploring the possibility of underlying psychological issues, potentially exacerbated by political radicalization,⁣ as contributing factors to the attack. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued a statement condemning the attack, ⁣further highlighting ‍the international implications of this tragedy.
