Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud announced the launch of the second edition of the “Green Middle East Initiative Summit” on 7 November and the “Green Saudi Initiative Forum” on 11 and 12 November in Sharm El Sheikh, expressing the his thanks to President Abdel Fattah Sisi and the Egyptian government for hosting the two events.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman said, according to the Saudi news agency, that the launch of the two events coincides with the convening of (COP27), which brings together the countries of the world under a single umbrella to promote global climate ambitions, stimulating a joint action at local, regional and global levels. This happens when the Kingdom and Egypt believe in the importance of collective and participatory work to address the environmental and climatic challenges that the region and the world are witnessing “.
The second edition of the Green Middle East Initiative Summit will be held; To shed light on the most important climate challenges facing the region and their global dimensions, through a strategic platform that promotes joint cooperation, exchange of experience and discussion of ideas between heads of state, relevant government ministers and decision makers politicians in the countries of the region; This will help accelerate the transition to a green economy and build a more sustainable future for future generations.
This year’s second edition of the Green Saudi Initiative Forum will also bring together a group of speakers, experts and thought leaders to discuss progress in implementing the Kingdom’s previously announced initiatives to tackle climate change.
Interestingly, these two initiatives were launched by the Saudi Crown Prince last year to enhance the Kingdom’s environmental efforts in previous years in accordance with the Kingdom Vision 2030, in exchange for the Kingdom’s serious desire to meet the challenges. environmental, which were represented by high temperatures, low rainfall, high dust waves and desertification, and as part of its efforts to promote public health and improve the quality of life of citizens and residents.
The Green Saudi Initiative aims to plant 10 billion trees across the Kingdom over the next few decades and increase the percentage of protected areas to 30% of the Kingdom’s total areas, as well as reducing carbon emissions by 278 million tons per year. by 2030.
