In this way, the Saudi Football Association wants to increase the prestige of the local league, as well as against the background of large cash injections and status transfers, compete in a competitive environment with the best clubs in the world. To implement this idea, the Saudis will need to negotiate with UEFA, since participation in the tournament of a Saudi club means the loss of a place for one of the European teams.
It remains unclear how Saudi clubs will combine the UEFA Champions League with participation in Asian continental tournaments. From March to August they take part in the Arab Champions Cup, and from August to May they play in the Champions League of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
