Saudi Arabia wants a permanent ceasefire in Gaza

Riyadh: Foreign Minister Amir Faisal bin Farhan said that Saudi Arabia’s message is clear and that is a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The Saudi minister clarified his position in a speech delivered to the UN Security Council on the issue of Palestine along with the Chinese foreign minister and members of the Arab-Islamic ministerial committee.

Israel’s claims of self-defense are weak. The solution is a cease-fire in Gaza and an independent Palestinian state. This is our position. We have introduced several peace formulas. There is no clarity about Israel’s peace initiatives. Peace is our strategic choice. The Saudi Foreign Minister pointed out that it should be Israel’s election as well.

The irresponsibility of the international system in the case of Gaza is evident. This needs to be fixed. He also called for more humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip. In a press conference held at the UN headquarters in New York before the speech at the Security Council, the Saudi minister stated that the current temporary ceasefire in Gaza is insufficient and our goal is a permanent ceasefire. Violence is not a solution. Calls for a ceasefire are being raised internationally. The situation in Gaza is dire.

The minister also pointed out that the international public opinion about what is happening in Gaza has started to change. The international community should end the war and blockade and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza. The foreign minister also said that Saudi Arabia has rejected the eviction of Palestinians. We hope that other alliances can be built from the temporary cease-fire in Gaza. The Minister said that there is an opportunity to extend the ceasefire in Gaza with the efforts of Egypt and Qatar.

Members of the appointed ministerial committee of the Arab-Islamic Summit, headed by Saudi Foreign Minister Amir Faisal bin Farhan, held an official meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the UN headquarters in New York.

The foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia, the Secretary General of the Arab League and the representative of the Arab Group in the Security Council, which is the UAE Minister of State, also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the members of the committee renewed their demand to return to the path of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace through the implementation of international resolutions related to the two-state solution to the Palestinian issue. An independent and sovereign Palestinian state should be established according to the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The committee also demanded that the Palestinian people should be able to achieve their legitimate rights.
