Saudi Arabia.. Two diplomats and expatriates arrested on charges of corruption

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – An official source in the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced, on Sunday, the arrest of a number of employees of the Ministry of Interior and two Saudi diplomats on charges of involvement in corruption cases, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The source said, according to (SPA), that “in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, two employees of the Ministry of Interior were arrested for forcing a resident to sign a financial commitment of 23 million riyals in favor of a Palestinian investor, who was suspended, in return for obtaining money from the investor.”

The source confirmed that “according to the results of the investigations, 3 residents from Bangladesh were arrested, as they admitted during the investigations to trading in visas with the complicity of the employees of the Saudi embassy in Bangladesh, and by searching their residences, an amount of twenty million one hundred and eighty thousand riyals was found in cash, artifacts, gold bars and luxury vehicles that turned out to be Receipts from the sale of work visas in the Kingdom,” according to the statement, which was published by (SPA).

The statement added that “5 people were arrested, including 3 residents, a visitor and the owner of a labor recruitment office from Bangladesh, for trading in visas and smuggling the resulting money outside the Kingdom.”

The source also confirmed that the head of the consular section of the Saudi embassy in Bangladesh, former deputy ambassador Abdullah Falah Mudhahi Al-Shammari, was arrested, and the deputy head of the consular section of the Saudi embassy in Bangladesh, Khaled Nasser Ayed Al-Qahtani, was arrested on charges of complicity with the expatriates who were arrested and proven to have The period of their work at the embassy amounted to 54 million riyals, in installments in return for completing the issuance of work visas in the Kingdom, and their acknowledgment of receiving part of those sums inside the Kingdom by the arrested residents, “according to (SPA).”
