Saudi has toughened its position against taking people illegally to Mecca. The General Directorate of Public Security has warned that strong action will be taken if travel facilities are provided to those going to Makkah who violate the rules during Hajj. If a foreigner is caught, they will be deported and then restricted from entering Saudi Arabia. The punishment is imprisonment up to 6 months and a fine of up to 50,000 Riyals. The number of fines increases with the number of violators in the vehicle. Also the vehicle will be impounded. A foreign national caught will be deported and subsequently banned from entering Saudi Arabia for a specified period of time. The authorities advised citizens and expatriates to follow the rules and regulations of Hajj and Umrah.

At the same time, the authorities asked the public to inform the concerned persons if they notice fake Hajj service institutions. Makkah, Riyadh and Eastern Province areas should contact 911 and other areas should contact 999.
