Saudi Arabia to Split Desert with 120 Km Glass Skyscraper

RIYADH, KOMPAS.comArab Saudi launched a plan to build glass skyscraper $1 trillion, 75 miles (120 km) long, which will stretch across the desert and stand taller than the Empire State Building.

The so-called “Mirror Line” skyscraper project will be part of a desert city called Neom – the size of which will exceed half the area of ​​Jambi (27,363 km²), Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) announced in January 2021.

The announcement came after MBS said his country had construction projects as iconic and timeless as the Egyptian Pyramids.

“The Line is a project that is a civilization revolution that puts people first,” he said at the time.

Reported Daily Mail on Sunday (24/7/2022), the Mirror Line will consist of two 1,600 feet (488 meters) tall buildings parallel to each other across 75 miles of desert, coastal and mountainous landscapes.

Prince MBS has claimed he wants the Mirror Line to be ready by 2030, although engineers say it will take 50 years to build.

The building is so long that it will stand upright taking into account the curvature of the Earth.

When fully completed, Saudi Arabia’s new skyscraper will stretch from the Gulf of Aqaba, through the mountains, and then extend along the coast into a desert ‘aerotropolis,”’ Wall Street Journal report.

Salman also said that the project aims to enable one million residents to meet within a five-minute walk and travel from end to end in a span of 20 minutes.

The building will also reportedly be powered by renewable energy.
