RIYADH: Saudi Arabia will host the 10 Asian Winter Games in Trojina, a mountain resort in Neom City. In the first week of last August, the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) delivered the letter of availability to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The OCA General Assembly held in Cambodia on Tuesday unanimously approved the Saudi request.
Sports Minister and SOPC President Amir Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Neom City Project CEO Nadmi Al Nasser and Interim Olympic Council President Raja Randhir Singh signed the Memorandum of Understanding in this regard. Young Saudi winter sports athletes Al Pine Skier Faiq Abdi and ice hockey player Sadim Al Tuhami were among the Saudi delegation that attended the General Assembly.
Trogina is a snow-capped mountain resort in Niomi, the Saudi dream city project linked to ‘Vision 2030’, which is under construction on an area of 26,500 square kilometers. According to the SOP, the willingness to host the Asian Winter Games was conveyed to the Asian Olympic Council by the special interest of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the chairman of the board of “Neom”. President Amir Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al Faisal revealed this while delivering the letter.
The Asian Winter Games is an international winter sports competition organized for the member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia. In 2017, the 8th Winter Games were held in Sappora, Japan. South Korea will host the ninth edition of the Games in 2025 in Gangwon province.
Trogina, which will host the X Winter Games, is the first mountain ski area in the Gulf region. It is also a hub for mountain tourism, one of Vision 2030’s goals, and several projects are expected to be completed by 2026. In addition to sports centers, permanent facilities for adventure tours, venues for entertainment events and music events will be established here. luxurious guesthouses and world-class restaurants. Amir Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal hoped that the Trogina Winter Games in the Northwest Mountains would combine the beautiful landscape, unique architecture and advanced technology to provide unforgettable experiences for sports enthusiasts.
