RIYADH Saudi Arabia will use its uranium resources to develop a nuclear power program. This was conveyed by Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al-Saud on Wednesday.

During the International Mining Conference in Riyadh, he highlighted the importance of energy flexibility to face the transition to clean energy.

Prince Abdulaziz said the kingdom wanted to benefit from nuclear technology to diversify its energy.

“We have a large amount of uranium resources, which we want to exploit and we will do so in the most transparent way possible,” he said.

“We must not lose energy security for the sake of publicity stunts”, continued Prince Abdulaziz, as quoted by Reuters, Thursday (13/1/2022).

He added that Saudi Arabia would publish its energy strategy.

Saudi Arabia Mining Co. (Ma’aden), the largest miner in the Gulf, will also set up a subsidiary for overseas investment.

“We have the foresight to put together through our mineral whiz, Ma’aden, a soon to be developed subsidiary to venture overseas with partners,” he said.
