Saudi Arabia proposes investment to Iran – aims to stop Hamas-Israel fighting from spreading

Saudi Arabia had proposed strengthening cooperation and investing in Iran, which is under economic sanctions from Western countries. This was announced by multiple officials. The aim is to prevent the war between Israel and the Islamic group Hamas from escalating into a wider conflict.

Since last month’s surprise attack by Hamas, Saudi Arabia has made direct offers to Iran and has reached out to Iran through several other channels, according to Arab and Western officials familiar with the matter.

The possibility of increased engagement between Iranian President Raisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was also raised during the emergency joint summit of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in the Saudi capital Riyadh this month. It is said that it has surfaced. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity due to confidentiality.

Alongside its conciliatory efforts, Saudi Arabia is also exploring other directions. The U.S. will work with Saudi Arabia and other Arab states to stop Iran from strengthening its armed forces in the region, from Lebanon and the Palestinian territories to Iraq, Syria and Yemen, said U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East Affairs Lief. It is said that

Iran’s ‘Axis of Resistance’

A transnational network of political allies and armed groups

Saudi foreign ministry officials and a spokesperson for the Saudi embassy in the United States did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

It is unclear how seriously Iran takes the Saudi proposal, but so far it has avoided escalating the conflict to the region.
