Saudi Arabia: Neymar, things are going wrong

Neymar’s Saudi trip turns sour. The Brazilian will not play until January 2025, six months before his lease at Al-Hilal expires.

According to Saudi sources, relayed this week by the sports daily Marca, Neymar got the better of the patience of his leaders.
Poached at a high price by Al-Hilal in the summer of 2023, for a transfer of 90 million euros for the benefit of PSG, the Brazilian costs the Riyadh club a whopping 100 million euros per year. An investment purely and simply lost until then.

After five small matches played on his arrival (three in the league, two in the continental cup), the person concerned seriously injured his knee, victim during the international gathering in October of a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament with damage to the left meniscus. An injury which according to initial prospects should be ancient history already.

A “not very professional” attitude

However, if Neymar has resumed training – solo and with extra kilos, necessarily – his return to business is still far away. “ The disappointment of the club and the Saudi Pro League – remember that Al-Hilal is one of the four teams subsidized by the public PIF fund – is great. Ney had a serious injury, of course, but at Al-Hilal, we note that his return should have already taken place and that some of his attitudes off the field are not very professional », Slips the Spanish publication in question.

Not registered by his club to play in the first phase of the championship, Neymar will have his chance again in 2025, but his amazing contract will then only run for six months. In the meantime, Auriverde will still be able to establish themselves in the Saudi Arabian Cup or in the Asian Champions League where their team, reigning champion and currently at the top of the Saudi elite, also has great ambitions.

« Neymar is a very important player, not only for us but also for the whole championshiphammered his trainer Jorge Jesus again recently. However, I do not want to give a precise date for his return. We will take another look at his physical condition in January… »
