reported CNBC, Monday (13/3/2023) on Sunday the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman officially announced the new national airline, Riyadh Air. The airline will be headed by industry veteran Tony Douglas.
The target is that the airline Riyadh Air will serve more than 100 destinations around the world by 2030. This new airline will improve connectivity between the Kingdom and the three continents that surround it, namely Asia, Europe and Africa.
News agency SPA said that the airline is expected to add USD 20 billion to Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP growth and create more than 200,000 jobs both directly and indirectly.
Of course the announcement of this new airline is a new choice for travelers. As well as this new airline will deal directly with major airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines.
Riyadh Air is wholly owned by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The company’s board of directors will be chaired by Yasser bin Othman al-Rumayyan, Governor of the Public Investment Fund.
In October, Saudi Arabia was in advanced negotiations to order nearly 40 A350 jets from Airbus, with Boeing. Also lobbying for some of the empire’s transport expansion.
Previously, the head of state-owned Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) told Reuters that it is in talks with Boeing and Airbus to order planes for its airlines and planned new airlines.
