In Saudi Arabia, 81 prisoners were executed in one day. This includes convicted terrorists and murderers, is in a vexplaining of the Saudi Ministry of the Interior.
It is rare for the country to execute so many people in one day. This number surpasses a mass execution in January 1980, when 63 people were beheaded who had been convicted of occupying the Great Mosque in Mecca. In 2019, according to Amnesty International, the most death sentences in Saudi Arabia were carried out in an entire year: 184 in total.
The 81 convicts now executed have been found guilty of assault, kidnapping, rape and other crimes, the Saudi ministry said. They are said to have been members of terrorist organizations such as IS and al-Qaida or have joined the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
A civil war has been raging in neighboring Yemen for years. The government army is fighting there with the support of a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia against the Houthis, who are supported by Iran. Houthis carry out attacks in Saudi Arabia with missiles, among other things.
