Saudi Arabia Bans Final Fantasy XVI Due to Non-Compliance with National Laws and Regulations

(PressFire.no): Saudi Arabia’s age marking body for computer games, VGAR, has announced on social media that “Final Fantasy XVI” will be banned in the country.

The reason is said to be that Square Enix refused to change parts of the game to comply with the country’s laws and regulations.

According to unconfirmed rumours, the “parts” being talked about are that there are gay people or opportunities to enter into relationships with them in the game, but the official reason for the ban has not been given.

– For fans of “Final Fantasy XVI”, we would like to clarify that the game will not be released in the kingdom due to the publisher’s unwillingness to make the necessary changes, writes VGAR on Twitter.

Square Enix has not commented on the decision.

Other game developers, on the other hand, are said to have agreed to the censorship in the country. For example, a separate Middle Eastern version of “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” was released by Ubisoft, with all opportunities for same-sex relationships removed.
