“Saudi Arabia and US Initiate Talks for Ceasefire in Sudan’s Conflict-Ridden Region”

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the start of preliminary talks in the city of Jeddah, on Saturday, between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, according to a statement issued Sunday evening.

The State Department said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America urged the two parties to engage seriously in the talks in order to achieve the following goals: achieving an effective short-term ceasefire, working to facilitate the arrival of emergency humanitarian aid, restoring basic services, and setting a timetable for expanded negotiations to reach a permanent ceasefire.” for hostilities.”

And Riyadh added: “The two parties have expressed their responsibility to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, including reaching an agreement on security measures to facilitate the arrival of urgent humanitarian aid and the restoration of necessary services for those in need.”

The Saudi Foreign Ministry added: “The two parties have begun to review the declaration of commitment to protecting civilians and facilitating and respecting humanitarian work in Sudan. The two parties have also begun discussing the security measures that they must take in order to facilitate the arrival of urgent humanitarian aid and the restoration of necessary services in accordance with the Declaration of Principles.”

Saudi Arabia and the United States of America welcomed the commitment of the two parties, urging each to respect the existing cease-fire, and to refrain from taking any provocative actions on the ground to maintain a positive atmosphere for the current preliminary talks.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry indicated that negotiations between the two parties will continue in the coming days, “in the hope of reaching an effective and temporary ceasefire so that humanitarian aid can be delivered to those in need,” she said.

Sudan is witnessing armed conflict and violent clashes between the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hamidti.
