For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement, that “Kuwait and Saudi Arabia reaffirm that ownership of the natural resources in the divided submerged area, including the entire Al-Durra field, is a joint property between the two countries only, and they alone have full rights to exploit the wealth in that area,” according to the agency. She added, “The two countries renew their previous and repeated calls for Iran to negotiate about the eastern border of the submerged area divided with the two countries as one negotiating party and Iran as another party in accordance with the provisions of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.”

It is noteworthy that Iran announced, on Sunday, its adherence to its “rights” in the Dorra field, and the Iranian Oil Minister, Javad Oji, confirmed the eligibility of Tehran’s position in the “Arash” or Dorra gas field, saying: “If there is no desire to reach an understanding and cooperation, Iran will put on its agenda securing its rights and interests, extracting and exploring for these resources, and will not bear any loss of its rights,” according to the official Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

“Iran has always supported peaceful solutions on land and water border issues with neighboring countries,” Oji said, on the sidelines of a seminar on plans and projects for joint oil and gas fields.

And he continued: “We have always followed the method of negotiation and understanding with the neighbors, and on the field of” Arch “We also demand a unified and joint extraction from it.”

Earlier, Kuwaiti Oil Minister Saad Al-Barrak said that the Al-Durra field is considered joint property exclusively between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia only, and that whoever has claims should demarcate the borders, in reference to Iran, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

And last month, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Oil announced that the Kuwaiti-Saudi permanent joint committee “discussed accelerating the pace of work and achievements in oil projects related to the onshore divided zone, and the submerged zone adjacent to it.”

This was accompanied by official Saudi statements, which considered that “the ownership of the natural resources in the divided submerged area, including the entire Dorra field, is (shared ownership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Kuwait only),” according to the statements of a source in the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The source said that Saudi Arabia “renews its previous calls for the Iranian side to start negotiations to demarcate the eastern border of the submerged area divided between the Kingdom and Kuwait as one negotiating party opposite the Iranian side, in accordance with the provisions of international law.”

And Saudi Arabia and Iran announced in March that they had agreed to restore diplomatic relations after 7 years of hostility in an agreement between the two regional rivals, which could have wide repercussions for the Middle East, but the pending dispute over the Dorra field may pose some challenges to this agreement, which China mediated.
