Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Saudi Food and Drug Authority’s official account via social networking site ‘Twitter’ has responded to a tweet claiming that one of the popular ‘Oreo’ biscuits contains pork fat.
The authority denied this and confirmed in a tweet on Tuesday that “all food in the Kingdom is halal, and we assure you of our enthusiasm and follow-up on food products in the Kingdom and to ensure approved standard specifications.”
The official ‘Oreo’ cookie account on Twitter had previously confirmed that the product was indeed halal. “Our Oreo cookies, which are made for the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan, are alcohol-free and comply with local regulatory requirements in the region,” the company said in a tweet.
“Our production facilities have obtained Halal certification from relevant authorities,” the tweet added.
And in 2021, the Saudi Drugs and Cancellation Authority posted a tweet on ‘Twitter’ stating that the gelatin used in drug capsules comes from an animal or plant source, with special requirements and controls followed by the authority for types of gelatin used in medicines that may enter the Saudi market, the most important of which is that the medicines are completely free of porcine gelatin.
The administration had previously clarified on its official website that soft drinks, such as Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola, available in markets across the Kingdom are free from pork products.
