The municipality of Medina, Saudi Arabia, has announced that it has completed the construction of cycle paths along main roads and within residential neighborhoods for a length of 70 kilometers.

The routes, created during the year, fall within the objectives of the Municipality aimed at improving the quality of life and setting up public spaces to encourage the practice of various sports as part of the “Humanization of the City” program and the urban development system that the city witnesses.

The new routes help to enhance the skills of beginners and professionals and develop health and sports awareness among residents, as well as allowing the use of cycling as a light means of transport, offering a safe alternative within the public transport system .

There are more than 165 bicycle and scooter stations in Madinah through Careem Bike service, covering most neighborhoods and vital locations and providing innovative solutions as an environmentally friendly means of transportation that eases the process for residents and visitors.

The cycle paths have been designed to safety and security standards to serve all ages and age groups, whether professionals, enthusiasts or people with special needs, and the routes are separated from traffic.

The municipality aims to achieve complete accessibility by extending the safe cycle path network over a space of 220 linear kilometers by the end of 2025 to include 33 vital sites in Medina.

This comes as part of supporting the goals of enriching the visitor experience, enabling them to explore new destinations and enjoy unique experiences in light of the availability of “Careem Bike” rental stations at historic sites and attractions.
