Since the start of the civil war in Yemen, rebels have killed 59 Saudi civilians in air strikes. Saudi Arabia made the announcement in a statement.
In those more than seven years, 430 rockets and 851 drones are said to have been fired or flown from Yemen to the neighboring country. Most of these projectiles and drones have been intercepted, according to Saudi Arabia. The country has said nothing about the number of civilian casualties in Yemen as a result of Saudi airstrikes.
Yemen has been ravaged by civil war and a humanitarian crisis since 2014. Both the Saudi-backed government army and the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels are suspected by the UN of war crimes. The past few weeks has been the battle flared up again.
Training camp bombed
The Saudi-led military coalition also bombed the Yemeni capital Sanaa this weekend. According to the commanders, a training camp of Houthi rebels was hit. At least three civilians are said to have been killed this weekend.
The bombing was in retaliation for a rocket attack on the city of Jizan in Saudi Arabia. According to the Saudis, two civilians were killed and seven people were injured on Friday.
More than 12,500 civilians have been killed in targeted attacks in Yemen since the start of the civil war. according to data of the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED). In seven years’ time according to UN estimates nearly a quarter of a million people died. Half of the victims died from lack of food or health care.
