Saudi Foreign Ministry: Deputy Foreign Minister discusses with his Iranian counterpart intensifying consultative meetings and cooperation
Today, Tuesday, Iran reopened its embassy in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, months after the two countries agreed, with Chinese mediation, to end a years-long diplomatic dispute.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, on Tuesday, that Deputy Foreign Minister Walid Al-Khereiji discussed with his Iranian counterpart for consular affairs, Ali Reza Beekdli, the intensification of consultative meetings and ways of cooperation to achieve more positive prospects for bilateral relations.
It added, in a statement on Twitter, that the visit of the Iranian deputy foreign minister and his accompanying delegation came to inaugurate the Iranian embassy in Riyadh and the Iranian consulate in Jeddah.
Saudi Arabia and Iran had agreed in March to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries and reopen their diplomatic missions.
In continuation of the efforts to restore relations, Iran reopened its embassy to Saudi Arabia in the capital, Riyadh, in the context of implementing the bilateral agreements between the two countries.
Representatives of the Saudi and Iranian foreign ministries attended the inauguration at the Iranian embassy, which had been closed for years after it was recently fully restored.
The opening also came three months after the signing of the Saudi-Iranian agreement to resume diplomatic relations between them under Chinese auspices.

Last month, Tehran appointed high-ranking diplomat Ali Reza Enayati as the new ambassador to the kingdom. Enayati currently holds the position of Deputy Foreign Minister after he was ambassador to Kuwait during the era of former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Last April, the two countries exchanged visits of two technical delegations to discuss the issue of reopening embassies.
