Sauber unveiled the new name for its Formula 1 racing team on New Year’s Day: Stake F1 Team. However, there will be Grands Prix, including probably the race at Zandvoort, where this name may not be used. The Swiss formation will therefore be called differently in these countries.
In August 2022, Alfa Romeo, which was run by Sauber from Hinwil, decided to withdraw from the premier class of motorsport after the 2023 season. This came not long after Audi and Sauber announced a brand new partnership. The German car giant will supply the power units to the team once founded by Peter Sauber from 2026. Because Alfa Romeo will no longer participate in Formula 1 from 2024, Sauber needed a new name. The choice fell on Stake F1 Team, while the new car for the coming season will be called the KICK Sauber C44. Kick is another major sponsor of the team. Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu will drive for Sauber again this year, just like in 2022 and 2023.

Gambling prohibited
However, the name Stake F1 Team will not be allowed to be used everywhere. Stake.com is an online casino and gambling is not legal everywhere in the world. This year Formula 1 will visit a number of countries where gambling is prohibited and Stake will therefore not be allowed to advertise there. Gambling is illegal in Qatar and if you gamble there, you have to go to jail for three months. Saudi Arabia follows the laws of Islam and the Quran prohibits gambling. It is also possible that Stake F1 Team as a name and Stake.com as a sponsor will not appear during the Dutch Grand Prix. Gambling is legal here, but from July 1, 2024, online gambling may no longer be advertised during events and on television. Advertising for online gambling will be completely banned in our country from July 1, 2025. It is expected that Kick will take over the role of main sponsor from Stake. Kick is a streaming platform that Stake partly owns.
