In a recent interview, Satya Pal Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, made several explosive claims about the Modi government. Malik stated that the prime minister had no real problem with corruption and alleged that the PM had asked him not to speak about the lapses in the Central Reserve Police Force that led to the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019. Malik accused the Indian system, specifically the CRPF and the home ministry, of incompetence and laparvahi that resulted in the attack. He also claimed that the appointment of governors by President Droupadi Murmu was vetted by the PMO. Malik stated that the prime minister was ignorant and ill-informed about Kashmir and criticised the scrapping of Article 370, a move he described as a mistake. Malik claimed that he was removed from his position as governor of Goa because he had brought instances of corruption to the prime minister’s attention and alleged that people around the PM were engaging in corruption. Malik accused the government of appointing third-rate people as governors and criticised the treatment meted out to Muslims under the current government.
