The Saturn in Düsseldorf-Flingern should close in autumn. On the other hand, the employees are now taking to the streets and striking.
Düsseldorf – The Saturn-Employees in Düsseldorf-Flingern are angry – and they show that at the strike in front of the branch in the B8-Center on Friday clearly. Since the Saturn location is for 30. September is to be closed, there is no future for the around 40 employees. They should be fired, according to Guido Löffler, chairman of the works council of Saturn in Flingern.
After the first Negotiation round, which took place between the works council and Saturn on June 4th, the employees in planes are now campaigning for their rights and their jobs. “We received an initial offer, but that was a joke,” says Guido Löffler during the strike against 24RHEIN.
Saturn in Düsseldorf closes: 40 employees lose jobs
Although the lease for the Saturn branch in the B8 Center in Düsseldorf-Flingern is still around three and a half years run, the Saturn branch should close in autumn 2021 – and the employees should leave. From the closure of the Saturn in Düsseldorf-Flingern are about 40 employees affected, some of them have been with Saturn for more than 20 years.

Saturn closure in Düsseldorf-Flingern: employees are on strike
Before the Saturn branch moved into the premises in the B8 Center about eleven years ago, the store was in Wehrhahn operated. Numerous employees have been laid off since the move, according to the works council. “We moved to Flingern with 74 employees, now we are only 40”, Löffler explains to 24RHEIN.
That the Saturn employees no exchange offers would be received in other branches in the region, is not understandable for the chairman of the works council. “Since the average age is just under 50, the situation is not easy for us. Many people have a hard time – especially now in times of the Corona – to find a job, “says Löffler. With the strike, they want to show that Saturn is not proceeding fairly. “We demand the preservation of the location and our jobs,” says employee Amal El Jabbi. “The previous offer was a slap in the face. We demand a fair and fair compensation“, Sagt Rabia El Jabbi.

After the Saturn branch in Siegburg was closed in mid-April, according to Löffler, the branches in Bergisch Gladbach and Herford. Since, according to Media Markt-Saturn, a total of 13 of the 419 locations are to be closed by autumn 2022, around 1,000 jobs will be lost. According to the findings of the works council in Düsseldorf-Flingern, however, more stores would be affected by the closure.
What’s next in Flingern? “We are ready to fight and will continue to be loud, ”says Löffler clearly. Until the Saturn branch closes at the end of September, employees who have been on short-time work since December should now maintain normal operations.
