In the evening hours of February 11, 2023, the fire brigade was alerted to a room fire in the Styrum district. Callers reported the smell of burning and a home smoke alarm going off. The control center alerted two fire engines, as well as rescue and management services. After investigation on site, an apartment on the third floor was identified as the cause. After the apartment door was opened by force, burned food was found on the stove. The fire brigade removed the fire and extinguished it. Finally, the apartment was ventilated. The resident reported to the fire department at the end of the incident. As a result of the operation, Oberhausenerstrasse had to be completely closed by the police, which adversely affected traffic, including public transport.
A short time later, the control center received emergency calls about smoke and flames in the attic of an apartment building in Heissen. Both extinguishing trains, two management services and the rescue service moved out. On site, the situation was very unclear due to difficult access and impairments due to construction work. After successful access, one person was quickly rescued from their smoke-filled apartment, handed over to the rescue service and the fire quickly extinguished. The police are investigating the cause of the fire. (DSt)
