The weather… or rather the meteorological forecasts that spoke of severe weather phenomena and strong storms, was one of the factors that deprived the tourist destination of Ioannina during the four days of Easter.
Occupancies, however, moved to extremely high levels and Ioannina was also this Easter, one of the destinations preferred by Greek travelers and helped the businesses of the area, hotels and restaurants, to make good turnovers, maintaining a continuous period of good work coming from Christmas and even before.
According to the member of the Union of Hoteliers of Ioannina, former president of the Union, Mr. Stathis Sioutis, the occupancy levels during the Easter days ranged from 80 to 90%. The professionals are certainly satisfied and Mr. Siutis attributed the fact that we did not catch the absolute, in addition to the bad weather forecasts, to the increase in the price of gasoline and the two electoral contests that are coming, creating a climate of uncertainty among the citizens.
The highest levels of occupancy mainly affected the villages in the mountainous massif, while on the contrary the city moved in percentages of 70 to 80%. Of course, the city is immediately preparing to host school trips again.
The Easter visitors were from many cities in Greece, but especially from the two large urban centers of Athens and Thessaloniki, and the length of stay of most was 4 days.
It is known that Ioannina is a favorite tourist destination for the Greeks and the quality of services remains at a very high level, while compared to 2019, the price increase reached 10%, which is due to the decision of the professionals not to go ahead with significant increases, even though the cost of everything has gone up too much in recent months.
What is expected?
At the same time, according to Mr. Sioutis, the night half marathon is scheduled to be held on May 14 and on May 17 the direct air connection between Ioannina and Tel Aviv will begin, which will add value to the region.
Finally, high occupancy rates are also expected on the three days of May Day.
