Satellite images show great destruction in Mariupol

A large, smoking crater can be seen next to a gas station in the western part of the city, while smoke rises from apartment blocks across the street that have been badly damaged. Remains of buildings are strewn around the blocks.

Further down the street, it appears that a number of warehouse buildings have large holes in the roof, while there are many craters on a snow-covered ground just north of the petrol station.

Nearly two kilometers south of the city, a large fire broke out in a factory area in the Primorskyi neighborhood.

Since the sky over Mariupol was reasonably clear on Saturday, the damage reported earlier is much clearer. Among other things, the extensive destruction of the children’s and maternity hospital that was hit by Russian grenades on Wednesday is clearer to see.

Mariupol is completely surrounded by Russian forces and Russian-backed separatists who for almost a week thundered with artillery and cannons against the city. The humanitarian situation in the city is described as catastrophic for the approximately 200,000 people who are in the besieged city.
