Mexico City. During the six-year term that is about to end, the Tax Administration Service (SAT) collected 3.5 billion pesos through audits and compliance promotion, which represented 2.3 billion pesos more than in the previous six-year term and a real growth of 120.2 percent, according to data as of August of this year.
In a statement, the SAT reported that of the 3.5 trillion pesos collected, 1 trillion 426 thousand 725 million pesos were obtained from audits of large taxpayers and 1 trillion 87 thousand 476 million pesos from audits of small and medium-sized taxpayers. Meanwhile, from compliance promotion, the SAT obtained 989 thousand 182 million pesos.
The agency stressed that the auditing actions are part of the Master Plan for Auditing and Collection, which has allowed for an increase in the collection of taxes from large taxpayers, based on different strategies.
For example, carrying out audits to prevent aggressive tax planning, increasing the perception of risk in large taxpayers and offering legal certainty to the taxpayer.
The Master Plan includes better attention to taxpayers, through actions such as the use of digital media and information technologies, aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance and thus strengthening the tax culture.
The SAT explained that audits are scheduled with a more assertive approach and with less inspection time, that self-correction and timely collection were encouraged, and the verification of the application of balances in favor of the Value Added Tax (VAT) was reinforced.
“Thanks to this, tax revenues have increased without raising taxes or creating new ones, thereby ensuring a level playing field in the collection of contributions,” the agency said.
