A special exemption for the island and its universities: abolish the limited number of medical faculties for at least two years in order to make up for the gap of a thousand doctors that has been created between the currently available workforce and that which instead would be necessary. This is the proposal of the Sassari senator Carlo Doria, who yesterday at Palazzo Madama proposed a bipartisan amendment also shared by the other Sardinian senators which also provides for a 10 percent share of students enrolled in Sardinian students, born on the island or residing in Sardinia for at least five years: “The proposal is shared by the rectors of Sardinian universities and the regional council because the situation on the island is worrying and the lack of specialists and general practitioners is a problem to be solved immediately and the limited number of students does not allow resolve this emergency ». The first reply came by return of post and bears the signature of the senator of the Democratic Party Paola Boldrini, Vice President of the Hygiene and Health Commission, and of Dr. Stefano Manai, national head of health training of the Democratic Party: “We are perplexed by the statements of the Professor Doria who should know well, as a doctor and university professor, the problems related to the serious shortage of personnel accentuated by the pandemic. The real solution is to finance and increase the specialization and general medicine grants, at the same time increasing the number of admissions for the degree course in nursing and other health professions, only in this way we will respond without propaganda.
