The men’s medicine department of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari reopens to admissions.
After cluster of coronavirus recorded on January 22, the unit on the first floor reactivated the hospitalization procedures yesterday afternoon after the adoption of all the necessary measures.
“In this period – says Francesco Bandiera, director of the ward – the hospital has never interrupted the admissions of patients with internal pathologies that, as internists, we have followed in the support departments”.
The introduction of the new “guidelines on the appropriate use of diagnostic tests for Sars Cov-2 and their clinical interpretation”, which took place in the meantime, represented a step forward in the diagnostics of Covid-19 and made it possible to take stock on the diagnostic strategies of Covid, in the light of the latest technical and scientific acquisitions.
“We have intensified the checks – underlines Bandiera – and we program swabs every 48-72 hours from the patient’s hospitalization. It is true that the swab takes a snapshot of a situation that can change over time. Now we have swabs available. latest generation antigenic compounds that flank molecular and serological ones, and this allows us to better frame the situation “.
A barrier that allows us to deal with the cases of so-called “gray” patients who, although isolated in the emergency room and subjected to swabs that are distant in time with negative results, develop positivity after a few days of hospitalization in the ward.
