Saskatchewan Party attacks NDP MP for sung lyrics | Saskatchewan Elections 2024

The Saskatchewan Party accuses the New Democratic Party (NDP) of Saskatchewan of having recruited a candidate who used “misogynistic, pro-drug and pro-crime” remarks in old songs he performed. The leader of the NDP, Carla Beck, believes that these accusations are a diversion from the real issues of the electoral campaign.

Made for cocaine keys, Phil is the type to make big rocks to attract curvy women, Phil Smith said in a song called Fred Durst which was published 8 years ago. The latter is now the Saskatchewan NDP candidate in the riding of Estevan-Big Muddy.

Asked about the songs Tuesday, Carla Beck said her party prefers to focus on health care, crime rates and the cost of living.

I can’t imagine what it feels like to hear that this is the priority of a government that has been in power for 17 years and that this is what they are focusing on. It’s incredibly frustrating, she said.

In a statement released by the Saskatchewan NDP, Phil Smith apologized for the misogynistic remarks in these songs. He maintains that these songs were written about ten years ago and that he does not believe what the songs say.

I apologize for these words, I take full responsibility for my actions and I commit to social action to end gender discrimination, he said.

My goal now is to have a positive influence on our society and all the music I have created over the last few years has been dedicated to that.
