Auriane Rezé-Duclos likes to go out into the field. (© Les Alpes Mancelles)
Auriane Rezé-Duclos wanted to work in thearmy, at information service. She held an important position in fast food to the point of dropping out of school. Before embarking on the Politics, the parliamentary collaborator from Damien Pichereau, had created his box at Mans. Meet.
Please introduce yourself in a few words
Auriane Rezé-Duclos, 32 years old. Parliamentary collaborator of Damien Pichereau, for almost 4 years.
I am Mayennaise. I am from the town of Mayenne, in the north of the department.
Before any other question, we recently learned that you are in favor of the 2021 regional elections with Dominique Amiard, mayor of Cures
Indeed, I am 2nd on the list of the presidential majority in Sarthe just after Dominique Amiard, mayor of Cures. Of course, I am very happy that established politicians have thought of me. It’s always gratifying to have the trust of your own.
To get to know you better, we will ask you questions that concern you and your family. What are your parents doing?
They have been retired since this summer. My father was foreman in Montsûrs.
My mother (Marie-Pierre Duclos) was a psych nurse. She just put it back to vaccinate people against Covid, in Mayenne. Of course, I am very proud of her. Of course, my father does not vaccinate anyone, but I am proud of him too.
My parents are hard workers, they have always worked. My father was made redundant when the Alcatel plant in Laval closed, but was able to bounce back immediately.
Your school career?
I went to Saint-Martin kindergarten in Mayenne. Primary in Sainte-Bernadette still in Mayenne. And college and high school at Don Bosco, in Mayenne again and again.
Bac in hand, I went to study in Rennes. I spent a bachelor’s degree in mathematics there.
I am a mathematician. My brain does math on its own. It must be said that my father is a mathematician… I did a master’s degree in cryptography, the science of secret codes. I wanted to work in the army, precisely in the intelligence service. I did not go through with my project.
Your professional background?
I started by working at Mac Do to help pay for my student life in Rennes. It was in 2008. In fact, I stayed at Mac Do until 2013 because I was offered management training and I happened to like my master less. There was too much computing and not so much math and codes to be deciphered by hand… So, I accepted Mac Do’s proposals. Of course, I stopped my studies but I left with a license in my pocket.
In 2013, I left Mac Do to set up my company, the Columbus Café, place de la République, in Le Mans. I took almost two years to tie up my business. The establishment remained open from March 2015 to September 2019. I had time to train 5 apprentices and I am sensitive to learning …
I ended up going bankrupt! I’m not ashamed of it. I was 24 when I embarked on this professional adventure.
I made mistakes but they are formative. I have had very enriching experiences. Overall I don’t have too many regrets.
At the time, in 2015-2016, I was named Sarthoise de Talent and Le Mans Entrepreneur of the Year. And that year, the Trophy was given to me by the City of Le Mans via Marlène Schiappa, the current Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior of France, in charge of Citizenship
This is what concerns me at the level of my work outside politics.
Have you dreamed of working in the political world?
No way ! I never thought about it. I was not politicized until 2016, when En Marche was created. I am a Macron baby, there is nothing to do!
When I was little I watched with my adored grandfather (Marcel Duclos), government questions, broadcast on TV. My grandfather, a professional policeman, was a patriot in the noblest sense of the term… Politics interested him a lot. He made a point of following what was happening in the country. In short, this is my only initiation into politics. My mother was very moved when she saw my name on the list of the National Assembly devoted to assistants of deputies. I was on Damien Pichereau’s page, it made her and all my family very proud.
Who is the team of deputy Damien Pichereau made up of?
I have a colleague who is in Paris. It’s David Ousilou. He is a collaborator. He is in charge of all that is legislative. In the constituency, there is Camille Jarrossay who is in charge of the secretariat and then me. I take care of all the files of the circo and of the Sarthe and general.
What have you learned about the people of the first constituency since the start of the mandate?
I have worked in commerce and have always been in contact with people. I have never been disconnected. The Sarthois are nice, of course. And you always learn from the people you meet.
What are the most salient facts of this mandate?
In positive terms, we have taken conclusive steps. I am thinking, for example, of the reopening of the radiology department in Sillé-le-Guillaume and the signatures concerning the construction of new gendarmeries in Fresnay-sur-Sarthe and Sillé-le-Guillaume. Even if we are not decision-makers, I like to think that we are the oil in the cog between the different interlocutors.
Regarding the negative facts, we had an eventful mandate. I am thinking, for example, of the looting of the permanence or the intrusion of trade unionists during the wishes of Damien, in 2020, in La Chapelle-Saint-Aubin.
What is the action that makes her more proud since the start of the five-year term?
We pleaded for the non-closure of classes at Degré in 2019 and Saint-Ouen-de-Mimbre, at Gesnes-le-Gandelin and Sillé-le-Guillaume in 2018. Succeeding in canceling class closures, that makes us happy. We are trying to do the same this year. A class has already been saved in Sillé, it concerns the nursery school. We are working in close collaboration with the elected officials of Tennie / St-Symphorien, Rouessé-Vassé, Crissé / Pezé and Parennes in order to avoid class closures in these municipalities, it will be complicated, but we are not giving up.
Have you made any mistakes or mistakes over the past four years?
It must have happened? I have nothing that comes to the surface. In any case, we can always do better.
And the fact of having deserted the agricultural shows, that is not a fault?
We may have been wrong. We could have done things differently by overcoming the fear of being attacked on the pitch.
Since the start of the mandate, the team has had to deal with a lot of violence, especially at the office. I was sometimes afraid to take a donut. There have been recurring death threats. Sometimes I open the mail and see photos of decapitated corpses with writings: “the next one is you”.
My office took a blow with an ax during the demonstrations of the Gilets Jaunes. There have been very violent episodes and I cannot condone them. There are always ways to dialogue.
During the passage of 80 km per hour, there is a man who came to duty every day to insult us. The same is currently true for vaccines. The permanence of a deputy is not always the quietest place! I have no problem arguing but not under the threat of a slap or a punch. No, thank you, I want to keep all my teeth!
How do you find the Nord Sarthe?
I come from Nord-Mayenne and I don’t feel out of place. I feel like at home. It is a beautiful and dynamic territory where you meet real people. They are genuine. We meet a lot of different people, extraordinary life paths.
I am nourished by all the experiences in circo. I would be unhappy if I had to work only in Paris.
What makes Auriane Rezé-Duclos get up early?
I always get up very early. I am a morning bird. At 5 o’clock, I’m standing and already working, it starts nicely with a little press review and a big coffee.
Do you have passions?
I love politics. It is a profession-passion. I do genealogy and love to travel. Suffice to say that currently I am sad. I can’t wait to get vaccinated …
Damien Pichereau does it again or not? And you ?
For Damien, I cannot answer for him. I’m not in his head.
As far as I’m concerned, I do politics with Damien because we share a lot of values, whether in work or political ideas.
I don’t see myself working with a politician with whom I don’t share his values.
What are your values?
I am attached to the values carried by Emmanuel Macron and François De Rugi: transparency, work, moralization in terms of finances. Money from the money order should be used for the money order and nothing else. It is not pocket money. It is that of the taxpayer and as such, we must be very careful.
In my work, I take care of the follow-up of Damien’s invoices. And there, not the slightest gap. For me, this is very important. I don’t see myself tweaking to cover my boss.
I am more attached to the values that led me to enter politics than to any important position. You have to be consistent with your ideas.
Me, I play politics to get out of the image of “all rotten”, “the basket of crabs”. I dare to believe that we are playing politics to change the world. And if you want real change, you have to start applying the rules of good behavior to yourself.
It is said !
