Throughout the afternoon, in the park of the Sarreguemines community hotel, seventy children from CM2 and CM1 of multilevel classes from schools in the Community of the Sarreguemines Confluences conurbation competed in the final of the Inter-school Challenge of the road education track. In a welcoming and warm atmosphere, the children were accompanied and supported by their parents. “It was the students from the 38 schools in the agglomeration with the best scores who were asked for this final, which has been organized for more than 40 years. The aim is to highlight the practice of cycling and to make young people aware of the dangers of traffic on the public highway”, specifies Frédérique Houver, director of communication at the Sarreguemines confluences urban community.

A concrete challenge
This event, developed in partnership with the National Police, the Municipal Police of Sarreguemines and the National Education, offered four workshops to the finalists of this challenge. The children took a written theory test, a workshop on first aid gestures led by civil protection, a practical test on the track and a maneuverability test. “It’s a day that young people appreciate, they learn the basics of road safety in a fun way and it’s also a good springboard to the Highway Code”, underlines Sonya Cristellini-Fraiboeuf, vice-president of the community. of agglomeration.
Taking advantage of the event which brought together many children, the Sarreguemines Confluences urban community set up a sorting workshop. “Knowing that in recent weeks, most waste has become recyclable, it is important to make a small reminder, especially since children retain very easily and often pass the message on to parents! “, adds Sonya Cristellini-Fraiboeuf.
