Alejandro Bravo, member of the sargassum technical advisory committee, affirmed that they they alerted for a month the “important presence” of the algae to beaches of the state, for which they requested that work begin with the collection work.

In interview for MILLENNIUMThe oceanographic consultant also said that although it is in the last month that the presence of the algae has been most strongly noticed, it was since January when the sargassum began to arrive in significant quantities.

“The government to date has not decreed the new sargassum season as such, it has already been decreed in the technical advisory committee a month ago, but with the government it will be just tomorrow the first session with our technical committee, We were surprised by the arrival of this year because since January the sargassum began to arriveIt has not arrived in such overwhelming quantities; however, their presence is important ”, he assured.

He added that for this reason the hoteliers have already started the sargassum collection work a few weeks ago, but they are also preventing, because the arrival of the algae is expected to be as intense or more than that reported in 2019, when it was almost a million tons.

“It serves as a prior activation, because in summer the banquet will get stronger, like 2019, which was quite an important arrival and there is already an experience on the part of hoteliers and companies that put up barriers,” he commented.

The member of the advisory committee mentioned that however hoteliers already have a budget for sargassum, “you already know what you have to spend in sargassum season, you already have your networks, your barriers and you know how to complement your methodology to have your clean coast ”.
