Sardinia increasingly isolated: stop at Cagliari-Civitavecchia and in a month there is also the risk of air continuity

From today stop to sea connections between Cagliari and Civitavecchia. Last night the last Tirrenia ferries left and no other trips are scheduled for now. Territorial continuity on the air front is also likely to stop in a month since Alitalia will guarantee flights until 14 October. To launch the tender with the emergency procedure, the Region is waiting for information from Rome.

TRANSPORT BY SEA – Yesterday evening the 8pm ship from Cagliari to Civitavecchia set sail on time: in the last two months the same route has instead made headlines due to abysmal delays and repeated ferry failures. From today, the line, established a century ago, has stopped. The ships marked Moby, the “Zaza” and the “Dada” (eighty years in two), will probably be destined for other ports of call. Tirrenia, which has managed the route up to now, can do it: the agreement with the State expired in July and now the rules of the free market are followed. The route is not considered profitable. Grimaldi will remain in the capital, which now manages the Cagliari-Naples-Palermo line but – for now – does not seem willing to extend its commitment on the route to Civitavecchia.

AIRPLANE TRANSPORT – “We are doing everything possible so that on October 15th there will be no interruption of flights”, said the regional transport department. But we are waiting for indications from Rome, before proceeding with the assignment – with an urgent procedure – of the connections between the airports of the island and those of Fiumicino and Linate.

Ita will not have to reimburse the State for the illegal loan to Alitalia. But from Brussels they also reiterated that the newco will not be able to absorb the routes guaranteed up to now by the company in extraordinary administration. “Alitalia’s public service obligations will not be transferred to Ita. The related contracts will be awarded on the basis of open, transparent, non-discriminatory and unconditional tenders ”, it was explained. Therefore a public procedure is needed. Where Ita could come into play. Or even other companies.
