Patrick Haddad won hands down the canton of Sarcelles, as was expected at the end of the first round. The mayor (PS) of Sarcelles, who teamed up with Deborah Israel, won 74.1% of the vote in the second round on Sunday. 3,739 voters trusted him in an election where turnout was up slightly.
His left-wing opponents, Roumana Mouhamad (EELV) and Aristote Zola (SE) who came in second position a week ago, managed to collect more than a quarter of the votes. They thus significantly widened their audience of the first round, going from 697 to 1,307 votes. But the differential was too great. Note that the right-wing departmental majority, like the National Rally, had not presented any candidate for Sarcelles.
“We have set in motion a real dynamic”
“For a year and the municipal elections, we have started a real dynamic,” said Patrick Haddad, proclaiming the results. He is preparing for a mandate in the departmental opposition, determined to carry the voice of the east of Val-d’Oise and the popular districts. “There are two things I want to do. First, ensure that this department is more dynamic, says Patrick Haddad. Today, there are relatively few innovative policies, in the support of the elderly or disabled, in the youth field. The department operates like a large administration. It lacks political strength. We will be a force of proposal, we will present a spirit of innovation ”, he promises.
“We will try to influence departmental policy”
His second line of work, he continues, will be to contribute “to greater investment by the department in the youngest, most popular and most populated municipalities”. Patrick Haddad evokes the towns of the East, but also Argenteuil, Cergy… “In the East, we are not completely forgotten, but we have the feeling that we do not take sufficient account of territorial and demographic singularities. Currently, we speak of Enghien as of Sarcelles, we speak of Montmorency as of Villiers-le-Bel. For me, more must be done where the needs are greatest, to restore a balance. We need to pursue a policy that reduces inequalities. We will try to influence departmental policy in this direction. “
“We won more than 550 votes in a week,” notes Roumana Mouhamad. “We are proud of ourselves when we have only been on the ground for a year, for the municipal authorities. It is a memorable result that prompts us to continue. “
