Manchester –
Pep Guardiola had alluded to the moment of slipping Steven Gerrard 2014/2015 season when discussing Manchester City sanctions. The Spanish manager apologized.
Guardiola had mentioned the moment of Gerrard’s slip some time ago. He said that this moment could be City’s fault, in the midst of a cornered situation by The Citizens regarding charges of violating financial regulations in the Premier League.
“I don’t know if we also have to be responsible for Steven Gerrard who slipped at Anfield. Was it our fault? I respect Steven Gerrard, but the moment was ours,” he said some time ago.
The words seemed to be regretted Pep Guardiola. He apologized openly and directly Steven Gerrard for alluding to this quite painful moment.
“I apologize to Steven Gerrard for my unnecessary and stupid comments I said last time about him. He knows how much I admire him and his career, what he has done for this country where I live and train,” said Guardiola, reported by the Standard.
“I’m ashamed of myself, for what I said, because he didn’t deserve it. I really took my word for it, what I said in my previous press conference, about how I defended my club, but I didn’t represented my club well by putting his name in that stupid comment.”
“So, I’m sorry and I say it privately. But as I commented publicly, I have to do it here too. So I’m so sorry for him, his wife, his kids, his family, because it’s stupid,” he said.
Slipped moment Steven Gerrard itself occurred in the 2014/2015 season. The Liverpool captain slipped during the match against Chelsea. Liverpool lost 0-2, and ultimately failed to win the championship due to defeat in that important match. It was Manchester City who finally lifted the trophy at the end of the season.
