A new book titled “Dokud nás krev nerozdělí” by Željko Zorgić delves into the combination of an unusual detective story and reminiscences of the brutal wars ‍that accompanied the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. The roots‍ of the story reach even ‌further back into World War II.

The protagonist, Željko, has⁤ handed⁣ over his legal practice to ⁤a younger colleague ‌and could‌ enjoy his‌ retirement. However, he succumbs to the urging‌ of Jasna, the granddaughter ⁣of one of the dozens of victims⁣ of a massacre caused ⁤by Serbian paramilitaries in a Croatian village in Slavonia in December 1991. Jasna has been living in Germany for ⁢several decades but has now come to Zagreb on the recommendation of a friend to convince Željko to find out ⁣who really murdered her grandfather, Goran. She refuses to accept the claim that he was just⁣ a random casualty⁤ of ethnic ‍cleansing.

Željko embarks on a lengthy and challenging investigation ‌into the perpetrators ‌of the massacre, with the help of his daughter

How does the utilization of an unusual detective story⁤ format in the new book contribute to a deeper understanding of the breakup of‌ Yugoslavia?
