Sarah Sjöström, 29, won gold again today – the Swede was the strongest in the final of the 50 meter freestyle.

With that, she is now the swimmer with the most WC medals of all time with her 21.

– Awesome, I’m very happy with what I managed today, says Sjöström.

It took at least a third place and a bronze for Sarah Sjöström to pass Michael Phelps in the number of World Cup medals when it came time for the final of the 50 meter freestyle.

She managed that with flying colours, as it was a gold medal for the Swede.

The first meters looked even, but after 25 meters swam, Sara Sjöström was able to pull away and finally finish almost half a second ahead of runner-up Shayna Jack.

– It feels wonderful. Very cool, says Sjöström in SVT after the victory.

Sarah Sjöström now has 21 WC medals and is thus the swimmer with the most WC medals of all time.

“A lot that happened yesterday”

Yesterday, Sjöström broke the world record in the semifinals of the 50-meter freestyle, and eclipsed Phelps’ medal record.

– It was a tough night yesterday in a way, and to recharge after breaking the world record and, there was a lot that happened yesterday, so I’m very happy with what I managed to do today.

Michelle Coleman finished seventh in the 50 meter freestyle in a time of 24.46.

– It was the fastest time I’ve done here so it feels great. That’s the way it should be, but of course you want to be faster, but it’s just over the season’s best, so it’s great, says Coleman in SVT.
