Sarah Lahti and Samuel Russom Dominate the Terrain Championships in Halmstad

Several of Saturday’s short-distance runners also competed in Sunday’s 10 km race when the Terrain Championship was decided in Halmstad. Sarah Lahti took the weekend’s second dominant victory and Samuel Russom took the SM gold on the men’s side.

Sarah Lahti (Hässelby SK), who won the ladies’ short distance yesterday, took an early lead in Sunday’s race over 10km. The races are run on a 2000m long track that runs five laps. After the first lap, Sarah had a lead of 34 seconds, a lead she gradually increased during the course of the race. After lap 2 she led by 1:02, lap 3 1:30, lap 4 1:50 and at the finish the margin of victory read 2:26 as Sarah ran to the finish line in 33:23. The SM silver was taken by Täby’s Emilia Lillemo, who also won a medal for the second time this weekend. Emilia ran to the finish line in 35:49. The bronze went to Örgryte’s Johanna Larsson with a time of 36:06. Johanna also ran a short distance on Saturday and then finished in fifth place.

On the men’s side, it was a tougher fight for the SM gold. After the first lap, Hässelby’s Samuel Russom (5th on the short distance) led just before Örebro’s Martin Regborn (2nd on the short distance). When passing lap two, however, roles were reversed, Martin was first with Samuel close on his heels. Martin continued to lead the race when passing lap three. When passing the fourth lap, Martin and Samuel ran side by side. Samuel then sprinted to the gold on the last lap when he ran to the finish in 30:21 ahead of Martin in 30:25. The SM bronze went to Spårvägen’s Oliver Löfqvist in 30:47, who was 4th in the short distance on Saturday.
