Sarah Jessica Parker’s No Nudity Policy: How She Maintained Her Boundaries Throughout Her Career

Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed that she followed a strict rule during her career – she forbade herself to get naked in front of the cameras. It turns out that for the series “Sex and the City” she set the boundaries from the very beginning, how she will play the iconic Carrie Bradshaw. And after all these years, she’s managed to keep her role pretty bare, even in the revival series And Just Like That.

The 58-year-old actress is best known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City. While her co-stars on the hit comedy series often stripped down, Parker never did. It turns out that her film industry contract contained a clause prohibiting filming naked. She has maintained this position for most of her long career.

During an appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, the star explained how her no nudity policy was implemented and continues to be implemented.

Discussing her first impressions of the “Sex and the City” series, she told Stern, “I thought the script was really interesting, really exciting, different and fresh, and I’d never seen anything like it before. However, the only thing I was worried about ( I also revealed this to the director of the series), was that I don’t feel comfortable filming naked. Initially, I even had doubts about signing the contract at all, because I suspected that nudity would be included in part of the series. A lot of it!”

Parker explained that Darren Starr respected that and said, “Then don’t do it, I don’t care. There won’t be any nudity! We’ll have other actors, if they feel comfortable, they’ll do it, but you won’t have to.”

She reveals that it’s not about morality, it’s more about the fact that she’s very shy in a way: “I think I was just shy. I just don’t feel comfortable exposing myself in this way. I’ve never had any judgments, condemnations about someone else doing it. If someone else felt comfortable doing it, I just admire them…”

For example, in a recent interview, Cynthia Nixon told “Entertainment Tonight” that she has always been willing to show her naked body: “Simply one of the main themes of the show is sex – people have sex, people have great sex, people have terrible sex, and people having funny sex.”
