Sarah Bond, the current CEO of Xbox, faced this question at the Bloomberg Technology Conference. Dina Bass from Bloomber openly asked what Microsoft’s decision means for gamers.
However, the Xbox boss gave a very evasive response, which only partially affects the heart of the problem – the game industry is entering a period of stagnation, and the biggest “players” on the market are looking for the highest profits. The management of the company wants to keep a “healthy” business, and the Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios teams have suffered from these changes, which are raising a great challenge among the community.
Dina Bass: Earlier this week, Xbox announced the closure of four video game studios. I know you are not the head of these studios, but how should we, the gamers, understand this move in the context of Microsoft’s commitment to creating modern tactical games?
Sarah Bond: Yeah, you know, it’s always really difficult when you have to make decisions like this. I will go back to what I said about the business. When we looked at these fundamental trends, we felt a great responsibility to ensure that the games we create, the tools we build, the services we offer are get all the time. Even when the business is not developing, when we are going through a period of transition. The news we announced earlier this week builds on this, in our commitment to ensure that the business is healthy in the long term.
Bond emphasized that Right now, Xbox employees are focused on providing the best possible support to creators affected by layoffs and restructuring.
Right now we and our teams are focusing on the people affected by the changes and doing everything we can to help them through this difficult transitional period.
