Seville (Spain), 20 Feb. The bailaora Sara Baras and the guitarist Rafael Riqueni are part of the lineup of the XXI New York Flamenco Festival, a meeting with the most authentic roots of this art, which will blend with styles as diverse as jazz, funk and electronic music .
In a statement, the organization of the festival reported this Monday that the artists Irene Lozano, Emilio Solla, Diego Villegas and Antonio Liza Quartet complete a program made up of 19 performances by seven companies, which this year will extend from its permanent headquarters in Nueva York, to Miami and Washington.
Flamenco Festival New York 2023, from March 16 to 30, bets on contemporary Spanish flamenco figures who are key to this art “for having broadened its horizons and demolished its borders, questioning its limits and managing to transcend tradition, orthodoxy and stereotypes.
Flamenco Festival is one of the largest shows of Spanish performing arts outside of Spain, and one of the most outstanding flamenco events in the cultural programming of the United States.
The bailaora Irene Lozano la Chiqui will be in charge of opening the Flamenco Festival program with the show ‘Las mujeres que habitan en mí’, on March 16 in Miami.
As was the case in 2022, the Instituto Cervantes World Flamenco Congress is once again part of the Flamenco Festival, since in addition to supporting various performances, its New York venue will be one of the most important venues for this edition. EFE
